When You Don’t Recognize Yourself in the Mirror

There are seasons in life when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and pause, not out of judgment, but because something just feels... unfamiliar.

Maybe it’s a physical change. A new haircut. A few more lines. A body that’s been through stress or healing or just the everyday wear and tear of life. Or maybe it’s something deeper. A shift in how you think, what you believe, what you want.

Sometimes the outside doesn’t match how you feel inside. Sometimes it’s the inside that feels unsteady, even when everything on the surface looks the same.

So much can change in a short amount of time, especially when you’re growing, healing, letting go, or stepping into something new. And in that process, it’s easy to feel like you’re in between versions of yourself. The old one doesn’t quite fit anymore. The new one isn’t fully formed.

That space in between can feel uncomfortable. But it’s also where so much truth lives.

It’s not about going back to who you were. It’s about making room for who you are now. Even if it feels unfamiliar. Even if it’s still unfolding.

Because underneath the changes, visible or not, there’s a part of you that’s steady. The part that’s always been there. The part that knows what matters. The part that’s learning to trust herself again.

Not every season will come with clarity or confidence. But that doesn’t mean you’re lost.
It might just mean you’re becoming more of who you really are.
